Era l’estate del 1996 quando uno sparuto gruppo di radioamatori della nostra città, costituito da Flavio IK7UXU, Corrado IW7EAP, Giuseppe IK7YZC, Michele IK7ZCM, iniziò la fase preparatoria per gettare le basi di quella che sarebbe diventata la sezione di Molfetta. Alcuni di loro, già iscritti al sodalizio, contattarono chiunque che sul territorio avesse un nominativo radioamatoriale e la mania di “fare radio”.
Ricchi di questo materiale, si misero alla ricerca di validi interlocutori che, con la loro esperienza, potessero aiutarli a creare una sezione ARI nella nostra città. Trovarono così in Francesco I7FFE e Marcello IK7HIN fonti inesauribili di consigli, che portarono alla costituzione dal 15 Marzo 1997 alla sezione di Molfetta (cod. ARI 7009 cod. ASC J14).
Nel 2005 fu richiesto e assegnato il nominativo di sezione IQ7ML.
La nostra sezione, nata 25 anni fa, quest’anno ha compiuto le “nozze d’argento” con l’ARI e, sin dal primo anno della sua costituzione, ha sponsorizzato il contest “Apulia 6 province” per le categorie 144 MHz, 432 MHz, 1296 MHz e superiori. Poi da circa sette anni questo è diventato il contest “Apulia” valido per il trofeo ARI V-U-Shf.
Inoltre, organizza e sponsorizza l’Apulia VHF QRP Test giunto alla 25^ edizione, unica gara a livello nazionale in QRP. Annualmente, a partire dal 1998 per 13 edizioni, è stato organizzato un meeting rivolto a chi già opera in V-U-SHF finalizzato a promuovere l’uso di tali bande ai neofiti. In questi ultimi tempi, grazie ad un nutrito gruppetto di nuovi iscritti, si sono intensificate le attività di sezione che spaziano con partecipazione a contest in bande HF, VHF e superiori.
Nel 2010 è stata indetta la 1^ edizione della “Caccia alla volpe” che ha coinvolto la maggior parte dei nostri soci, invogliandoli al reperimento e all’assemblaggio delle apparecchiature occorrenti (trasmettitori e antenne portatili). La loro diretta partecipazione alla gara ha fatto sì che potessero verificare sul campo quanto costruito. Il successo e l’entusiasmo espresso dai soci ci ha permesso di rendere permanente tale evento, con l’intento di coinvolgere nell’organizzazione e partecipazione altre sezioni della nostra provincia e/o regione.
Sono state svolte attività in portatile attivando referenze D.C.I. e L.H. Tali attività hanno riscontrato particolare interesse nei novizi.
Il Jamboree è stato anche un campo di azione di molti soci che in collaborazione ai gruppi Scout di Molfetta e Bisceglie hanno propagandato l’uso nella radio e a molti giovani la possibilità di diventare radioamatori.
La collaborazione con l’ ARISS e la Cittadella Mediterranea della Scienza ha permesso la buona riuscita del progetto “ARISS: Gli astronauti parlano con le scuole” partecipando sia alla realizzazione dell’impiantistica sia al presidio della stazione durante i collegamenti tra gli studenti e gli astronauti della ISS.
Nel periodo di lockdown sono stati organizzati una serie di incontri in video conferenza dal titolo “La domenica in sezione” argomentando l’uso di nuove strumentazioni, l’autocostruzione, la costruzione di antenne VHF in portatile, i fenomeni di propagazione ed i nuovi modi digitali.
Veniamo ai nostri giorni…. E’ stata volontà di tutti i soci sottolineare la ricorrenza del venticinquesimo con un’attività che ci vedrà impegnati dal 19 al 25 settembre p.v. . In essa con il nominativo speciale II7ML, faremo conoscere chi siamo e cosa “facciamo” a coloro che avranno voglia di contattarci nel corso della manifestazione.
Per i simpatizzanti che ci collegheranno più volte sono previsti diplomi e riconoscimenti che saranno inviati per posta elettronica.

REGOLAMENTO
Il Diploma “25° anniversario della sezione ARI di Molfetta” è accessibile a tutti gli operatori italiani e stranieri.
Per conseguirlo occorre effettuare, dal 19 settembre 2022 (00:01 UTC), al 25 settembre 2022 (24:00 UTC), contatti con la stazione speciale “II7ML” , secondo le regole che seguono:
– Saranno validi i contatti effettuati, nel pieno rispetto del Band Plan IARU – Region 1, nelle bande HF (80-40-30-20-15-10), VHF, UHF e nelle seguenti modalità operative: CW, SSB, DIGITALE.
– I diplomi sono di tre tipi : Bronzo – Argento – Oro
a) al fine di ottenere il diploma – Bronzo, dovranno essere effettuati 3 (Tre) collegamenti in giorni diversi o su bande diverse o in modi diversi;
b) al fine di ottenere il diploma – Argento, dovranno essere effettuati 5 (Cinque) collegamenti in giorni diversi o su bande diverse o in modi diversi;
c) al fine di ottenere il diploma – Oro, dovranno essere effettuati 7 (Sette) collegamenti in giorni diversi o su bande diverse o in modi diversi;
– A tutti saranno inviate QSL elettroniche il giorno successivo al collegamento.
– I diplomi saranno inoltrati a fine attività in formato PNG via e-mail.

It was the summer of 1996, when a few ham (Flavio IK7UXU, Corrado IW7EAP, Giuseppe IK7YZC and Michele IK7YZC), bet on the setting-up of their town radio club, having in the sights its enrollment in the most ancient, renowned and widespread Italian amateur radio association, which goes by the acronym of A.R.I. and the only one officially recognized by I.A.R.U. The first step was to involve reliable and experienced partners, who could advise us on how to achieve it easier and more quickly.
The choice fell on two esteemed “Old Men”: Francesco I7FFE (SK) and Marcello IK7HIN. From the outset, we were largely in agreement on what needed to be done and what procedural arrangements should be put in place. The last step was to collect the minimum legal number of our future members, so as to account for the necessary establishment of our rising ARI Radio Club. All this happened pretty quickly, thanks to the spontaneous and substantial transfer of Ham, who came from other neighboring radio clubs and willingly embraced the same goal. Since that time, we have been trying to expand the ranks of our members. In the meantime, we managed to pick out a place no cost, giving our registered office a worthy accommodation, in a room belonging to the St. Domenico’s Church in Molfetta. Finally, on march 15, 1997, our Radio Club was fully authorized to join the great family of A.R.I., getting its own identification number: 7009 and ASC: J14.
In 2005 the IQ7ML section name was requested and assigned.
Numerous initiatives and activities related to the amateur radio world, have been put in place over these years. We mention some of them:
– The thirteen editions, from 1998 to 2011 of ham meetings, focused on various themes and aspects about the VHF and upper bands, in order to encourage the use of these ones among the new HAM generations.
– The creation and fielding of two our vhf contests, still in progress today and known by the names of: – Apulia Vhf Qrp Test; – Apulia Six Provinces. The latter was added to the national calendar of “A.R.I. Trophies”, intended for vhf and upper bands, and so its name changed to “Apulia Contest” and having as its usual deadline on the first weekend of July.
– Starting from 2009, a fruitful collaboration was started between some our amateur radio volunteers and the Mediterranean Citadel of Science in Bari, aimed both at setting up the “ground station” and operational technical support to carry out the ARISS School Contacts Program. This, created and managed by amateur radio organizations and space agencies (NASA, RKA, JAXA, ESA and CSA-ASC), allows students from all over the world to experience the thrill of talking directly to astronauts of International Space Station, in order to arouse their interest in the STEM disciplines.
– In 2010 was held for the first time the “Radio Fox Hunting”, which involved a large number of our members, encouraging them to find and assemble the necessary equipment (hand-held antennas, gain attenuators, etc) and getting everything ready for race. This outdoor activity made so they could check in the field the goodness of what was built. The success and enthusiasm expressed by the participants (on to accompany their families), allowed to planned it permanently and continuing to enjoy success year after year.
– Outdoor activities were carried out to activate the new regional D.C.I. (Italian Castels Award) and L.H. references.
– The 2014 edition of “Jamboree on air”, was a test field of many our members with a large scout contingent of our city and the neighboring Bisceglie, sharing unique opportunities for the cool and preparatory stages to go on air, such as the installation of wired antennas, the right set-up of transceivers in the shack and a basic training on how to manage a Qso with a correspondent at other end of the world.
– During the Covid lockdown period, themed meetings were organized in videoconference, entitled “Sunday in virtual room”. These included various radio arguments. For example: the use of cheap but performing RF measuring instruments, DIY, the overview of electromechanical features of vhf antennas suited for outdoor use, propagation phenomena and new digital transmission modes.
Coming to the present days. It’s the will of all our members to celebrate the 25th anniversary, from 19 to 22 September next, activating on the HF and VHF bands the special callsign “II7ML”. We will be truly honored to contact you on air. Please read below the rules for the purposes of getting the different award, which will be sent via e-mail.

The “25th anniversary of ARI Molfetta award” is available to all Italian and foreign amateur radio operators. To achieve this, it is necessary to contact the special station “II7ML” from 19 September 2022 (00:01 UTC) to 25 September 2022 (24:00 UTC), according to the following rules:
– The contacts made, in full compliance with the IARU Band Plan – Region 1, in the HF band (80,40,30,20,15,10), VHF, UHF bands and in the following operating modes will be valid: CW, SSB, DIGITAL.
– The awards are of three types: Bronze – Silver – Gold
a) Bronze Award achievement: 3 (Three) QSOs must be made on different days or on different bands or in different ways;
b) Silver Award achievement: 5 (Five) QSOs must be made on different days or on different bands or in different ways;
c) Gold Award achievement: 7 (Seven) QSOs must be made on different days or on different bands or in different ways;
– Electronic QSLs will be sent to all. The awards will be sent at the end of the activity in PNG format via e-mail. No logs are required but if your email address is not present on QRZ.com, please send a simple request to the award manager IK7HIN (email: ik7hin@me.com).
